From Middle Persian *nārgīl[script?], from Sanskrit नारिकेल (nārikela, coconut). Compare Middle Persian anārgēl[script?], Persian نارگیل (nārgīl), Arabic نَارْجِيل (nārǧīl), and Hindi नारिकेल (nārikel).
