Etymology[edit]

From Aramaic, from Akkadian 𒈬𒅎𒈠 (šaddaqdam), from 𒈬 (šattum, year) + 𒂵𒀜𒈬𒌝 (qadmum, early, before). Compare Classical Syriac ܐܫܬܩܕ (ʾeštəqaḏ, ʾeštəqady) and Hebrew אֶשְׁתָּקַד (ʾeštāqaḏ).
