From Maharastri Prakrit 𑀅𑀫𑁆𑀳𑁂 (amhe), from Sanskrit अस्मान् (asmān), from Proto-Indo-European *n̥sme. Compare Marathi आम्ही (āmhī), Hindi हम (ham), Punjabi ਅਸੀਂ (asī̃), Assamese আমি (ami).
