Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀚𑀁𑀪𑀸𑀇𑀅 (jaṃbhāia), ultimately deriving from Sanskrit जृम्भ् (jṛmbh, “to yawn”, root). Cognate with Marathi जांभई (j̈āmbhaī).
