Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Northwestern Indo-Aryan, whence Punjabi ਪੱਥਰ (patthar), from Prakrit 𑀧𑀢𑁆𑀣𑀭 m (patthara, stone), from Sanskrit प्रस्तर (prastara). Displaced native Old Hindi पाथर (pāthara).
