Inherited from Sanskrit আশু (āśu, quick), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *HaHśúṣ, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *HaHćúš, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁oh₁ḱ-ús. Cognate with Bengali আউশ (auś).
