Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Classical Persian نوبت (nawbat), which is derived from Arabic نَوْبَة (nawba, “turn, shift”). Cognate with Armenian նոպա (nopa), Maltese newba, French nouba and Turkish nöbet.

নওবৎ • (nôubôt) (objective নওবৎ (noōbot) or নওবৎকে (noōbotke), genitive নওবতের (noōboter), locative নওবতে (noōbote))
- A large round drum for making a special sound at the monarch's door every morning and evening or every hour.
- Sophisticated harmony of sanai etc.; Dunduvi or Badya.
