Borrowed from Classical Persian عَلَاءْاُلْدِّین ('alā'-uddīn), from Arabic عَلَاء الدِّين (ʕalāʔ ad-dīn). First attested in c. 1400 in Old Gujarati as अलावदीन (alāvadīna).
