Inherited from Prakrit 𑀓𑀁𑀲 (kaṃsa), from Sanskrit कंस (kaṃsa, “metal vessel”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *kansás (“metal”). Cognate with Assamese কাঁহ (kãh) and Odia କଂଶ (kôṁśô).
