Inherited from Prakrit 𑀮𑁄𑀳𑀺𑀅 (lohia), from Sanskrit लोहित (lohita), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hráwdʰitas (red), from Proto-Indo-European *h₁rewdʰ- (red). Doublet of રોહુ (rohu). Cognate with Hindustani لہو / लहू (lahū), Punjabi ਲਹੂ (lahū), and Sindhi لوهۇ (lohū).
