Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Proto-Dravidian *cām-. Cognate with Tamil ஆமை (āmai), Kannada ಆಮೆ (āme), Tulu ಏಮೆ (ēme), Kui (India) ସେମ୍ବି (sembi), Kuvi ତାମ୍ବେଲି (tambeli) and Telugu తాబేలు (tābēlu).
