From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *g-zik (leopard). Cognate with Zhaba ʑe⁵⁵ mei⁵⁵ (leopard/panther), Burmese သစ် (sac, leopard), Northern Qiang [script needed] (), Nuosu (ssyt), Chepang [script needed] (jaʔ).
