Etymology

From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *s/d-krwak (fear; frighten). Cognate with Nuosu (jjur) (as in ꐬꆠ (jjur hla, to fear)), Tibetan སྐྲག་པ་ (skrag pa, to be afraid) and Drung vkraq (to be surprised, to be frightened). Compare Chinese (kǒng, to fear).
