Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Mon-Khmer *wa(a)ŋ (“enclosure”).[1] Cognate with Thai เวียง (wiiang), Northern Thai ᩅ᩠ᨿᨦ (wiang), Shan ဝဵင်း (wáeng), Lao ວຽງ (wīang).
