Georgian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

According to Klimov[1] and Fahnrich[2], from Proto-Kartvelian *txil-. So far, the Old Georgian ancestor has not been studied, but Old Georgian თხილი (t’xili) or თჴილი (t’ẖili) has been suggested. Cognate with Svan შდიხ (šdix), Mingrelian თხირ (t’xir) and Laz მთხირ (mt’xir).
