Manchu[edit]
Etymology[edit]
The lack of palatalization from ti- to či indicates that it was likely borrowed from Khitan 𘭃𘱚 (*? g) than Mongolic proper which was in turn borrowed from Old Turkic 𐰋𐰃𐱅𐰏 (bitig). Ultimately from Middle Chinese 筆 (pˠiɪt̚, “writing brush”).
