Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *h₂ew-, *h₂u-es-. Cognates include Old Armenian ագանիմ (aganim), Hittite [script needed] (ḫu̯iš, to live)[script needed], and Sanskrit वसति (vasati). Related to αὐλή (aulḗ).
