Japanese[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Shortening of ハイソックス (hai sokkusu), itself analyzed as wasei eigo (和製英語; pseudo-anglicism), derived from high + socks,[1] as a borrowing from the English phrase high socks,[2] or as a shortening of English knee-high socks.
Pronunciation[edit]
Noun[edit]
- Short for ハイソックス (hai sokkusu, “[knee-]high socks”).
