[edit] Proper noun
本州 (hiragana ほんしゅう, romaji Honshū)
- Honshu, the main island of Japan with a population of 100 million, which is 4/5 of the Japanese.
[edit] Usage notes
Since Honshu is much bigger and more populous than other islands of Japan, you don't use this word to specify an area in Japan. Smaller area names such as 関東 and 関西 are used instead.
