Etymology[edit]

Derived as a shortening of the clause 気持(きも)() (kimochi ga ii, literally the feeling is good). Equivalent to a compound of 気持(きも) (kimochi, feeling) + () (ii, good).[1] Compare the development of 気味良い (kimi yoi).
