Etymology
[edit]牙買加/牙买加 appears to be first attested in 萬國地理全集 [1844] by Karl Gützlaff.
An earlier form, 牙賣加/牙卖加, which is attested in Kunyu Wanguo Quantu [1602], is possibly borrowed from Latin Iamaica.
