Etymology[edit]
First attested in the Gugeupganibang eonhae (救急簡易方諺解 / 구급간이방언해), 1489, as Middle Korean 메트리 (Yale: meythuli).
The first component may be 메 (me, “hill; wild”) and the second part may be related to 다리 (dari, “leg”). A number of dialectal forms show gul as their second element; this may be related to 걷— (geot-, “to walk”) (徐廷範).
Pronunciation[edit]
- (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [mitʰuɾi]
- Phonetic hangul: [미투리]
