Etymology[edit]

Of native Korean origin. From Middle Korean 코ᇰᄑᆞᇧ (Yale: khwong.phosk), 코ᇰᄑᆞᆾ (Yale: khwong.phoch), 코ᇰᄑᆞᆺ (Yale: khwong.phos).

A combined form of (kong) and (pat), due to their physical similarities with the human kidney.
