Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic -ѣль (-ělĭ), reanalyzed as plural, from Proto-Slavic *-ělь.

Suffix[edit]

-eală n (plural -eli)

  1. Forms nouns that indicate the action or result of a verb
    cheltui (to spend) + ‎-eală → ‎cheltuială (expense)
    greși (to err) + ‎-eală → ‎greșeală (mistake)
