Malay[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from English -ation, from Latin -ātiō. Doublet of -esyen, -sen, -asi, -si, and -syen

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /-esen/
  • Hyphenation: -é‧sén

Suffix[edit]

-esen (Jawi spelling -يسين)

  1. -ation.
    Synonym: peng- -an

Usage notes[edit]

In newer adaptations of English loanwords ending in -ation, alongside with -esyen, this is now replaced by -asi in an effort to make the ending of words of this kind uniform with its Dutch-derived counterparts in Indonesian (compare imigresen for immigration and implementasi for implementation).
