Armenian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Old Armenian բան (ban, word). In Old Armenian it was used in Ancient Greek calques for translating λόγος (lógos) in words like θεολόγος (theológos) or θεολογία (theología), which were rendered as աստուածաբան (astuacaban) and աստուածաբանութիւն (astuacabanutʻiwn). The practice continues now in calquing international (Latin) words with -logy, -logist, etc.
