  • This is a coordinating conjunction: gonai ... gi ... means either ... or ... (but not both).
  • This is a logical connective corresponding to prefix XOR (with the gi acting as separator between the two terms which follow).
  • This is a so-called "forethought connective". Its corresponding "afterthought connective" is .ijonai.
