[edit]The most common words from Native American languages (one or two per major family) are, in descending order:
- tobacco (from an Arawakan language... if not from Arabic)
- cigarette (from a Mayan language)
- chocolate (from a Nahuan language)
- potato (from an Arawakan language)
- cocaine (from a Quechuan language)
- and markedly less common but still common:
- moose (from an Algonquian language)
- kayak (from an Eskimo-Aluet language)
- cayenne and jaguar (from Tupian-Guaraní languages)
- plantain (from a Cariban language)
