/o/ vowel[edit]

@TagaSanPedroAko isn't the "o" in Tagalog more like /ɔ/ like using the sound recordings in this website: https://www.ipachart.com/ --Mlgc1998 (talk) 07:48, 12 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Mlgc1998 That's also what is mentioned in w:Tagalog phonology, but w:Tagalog language#Phonology says O equals to /o/, /ɔ/ being another realization. It's hard to tell what IPA symbol best represents Tagalog O.
Previously, we've used /ɔ/ for the O in {{tl-IPA}}. I can reinstate that if you think that's so. Pinging @Mar vin kaiser, Houflings, PseudoSkull as well. -TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 02:56, 13 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Continuing on, looking up at Phoible, which cites Bloomfield 1917, Schachter and Otanes 1972, and Himmelmann 2006, I think we should keep using /o/ for the O sound as it's the common realization of that sound. I would say /ɔ/ is more of an allophone.-TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 03:27, 13 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
