Derived from Classical Persian کِتَابِ اَقْدَس (kitāb-i aqdas, literally the holiest book), from Arabic كِتاب (kitāb, book) + أَقْدَس (ʔaqdas, holiest, exceedingly holy), the latter word being elative of قِدِّيس (qiddīs) or قُدُّوس (quddūs), both “holy”.
