Dutch[edit]

Etymology[edit]

First attested as Arcum in 1664. Borrowed from West Frisian Arkum. Difficult to interpret due to a paucity of old attestations. Potentially derived from a compound of Old Frisian Arke (a personal name) or Adrik and hēm (home, settlement).

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /ˈɑr.kʏm/
  • Hyphenation: Ar‧kum

Proper noun[edit]
