English[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Clyde +‎ side.

Proper noun[edit]

Clydeside

  1. The area along the River Clyde around the Glasgow council area, Scotland, possibly also including places such as Clydebank.
    • 1960 December, “The Glasgow Suburban Electrification is opened”, in Trains Illustrated, page 714:
The Glasgow electrification symbol of yellow and blue "Vs" overlapping on a black background is becoming familiar on Clydeside.

Usage notes[edit]

This is a fairly loose term describing an undefined area along the river; the main highway along the north side of the river is known as the Clydeside Expressway for some distance west of the city.
