- (Overijssel) First attested as De Schans in 1830-1855. Derived from schans (“sconce”).
- (Flevoland) Derived from schans (“sconce”). See also De Stelling and De Veste.
- (Bergen op Zoom) Derived from schans (“sconce”). Named after one of the former defensive emplacements around Bergen op Zoom.
- (Tilburg) Derived from schans (“sconce”).
