     It is learned from a merchant of Engteng in southwestern Fukien who recently arrived in Swatow that Liu Yung-sheng (劉永生), former commander of the Communist Fukien-Kwangtung Border Column who had plotted to overthrow Yeh Chien-ying, Communist governor of Kwangtung, was publicly tried in Engteng, Liu's native place, on June 24.

     Another distinctive crop is tobacco, which is produced in the Engteng area. Engteng is situated in the upper reaches of the Han Kiang, here known as the Ting Kiang. The tobacco, which provides the livelihood for virtually the entire hsien of Engteng, is shipped to Swatow in Kwangtung.
