From Ancient Greek Εὔξεινος Πόντος (Eúxeinos Póntos, Hospitable Sea), from εὔξεινος (eúxeinos, hospitable) + πόντος (póntos, sea). See also Πόντος (Póntos), with the first letter capitalized.
