Etymology[edit]

First attested as Huis Lochtenburg in 1788-1804. Compound of either Middle Dutch logt (air, sky) or locht (enclosed area, courtyard, vegetable garden) and burg (mansion). Originally the name of a manor house. Compare Locht.
