Etymology[edit]
From Old Saxon Norhthornon (literally “northern horn”); in Low German languages horn also refers to a pointed or wedge-shaped piece of land. By surface analysis, Nord (“north”) + Horn (“horn”). See “Etymologie Nordhorns” at the German Wikipedia for more.
