Etymology 2[edit]

First attested as toesterich in 1413. Derived from a contracted compound of ooster (eastern) and wijk (village, settlement). Compare Meterik, Middelijk, Noordijk, Schadijk, Westrik, De Zoeke, Zoeke and Zuuk.
