Penang lawyer (plural Penang lawyers)

  1. A kind of walking stick made from the stem of an East Asiatic palm (Licuala acutifida).
    • It was a fine, thick piece of wood, bulbous-headed, of the sort which is known as a "Penang lawyer." -The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Such a walking stick was also carried by Fitzroy Simpson in the short story "Silver Blaze" also by Sir Arthur.
