Italian petalo- (“broad, flat”) + English -phyllum (“leaf”). petalo- is from Italian petalo (“petal”), which is from Ancient Greek πέταλον (pétalon), and ultimately from πέταλος (pétalos, “broad, flat”). -phyllum is derived from Ancient Greek φύλλον (phúllon, “leaf”).
