Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Celtic *kʷritus, from pre-Celtic *kʷr̥tus, a tu-stem derived from Proto-Indo-European *kʷer- (“to make, cause”). Cognate with Old Irish cruth (“shape, form”).

GPC separates Welsh pryd in the "time, moment" and "face, appearance" senses, and expresses doubt at whether they are etymologically related.[1]
