From *mig- (light rain, drizzle), from Proto-Indo-European *migʰ-, *migʰ-lo- (drizzle, fog), from Proto-Indo-European *meygʰ-, *h₃meygʰ- (to flicker, blink, be dark; cloud, mist). Cognate with Lithuanian miglà (fog), Russian мгла (mgla, fog, haze).
