Etymology[edit]
Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *swey-, which could be an extension of *sew- (“to braise”). Compare Avestan 𐬒𐬬𐬀𐬉𐬥𐬀 (x́vaēna, “red-hot, glowing”), from Proto-Indo-European *(H)swoy-no-.
