Proto-Uralic[edit]

Reconstruction[edit]

The testicular sense is widely attested across the family, and the taboo of it might account for underreporting as well. Some authors (e.g. Zhivlov, 2016) reconstruct this sense back to Proto-Uralic, though most sources make no mention of it. The semantic shift egg > testicle is not, however, unusual (compare the descendants of Proto-Slavic *aje).

Noun[edit]

*muna

  1. egg
  2. penis; testicle; testes
