Etymology[edit]

This could only go back to *ploHtus or *pleh₂/₃tus, as according to Kroonen's own rules *plōwtus should have given *flauduz if indeed long-vowel diphthongs shorten in closed syllables. I think he started to realize this because his immediate pre-form is listed as *pleh₃tus while his description still describes it as deriving from *flōaną which he derives from *plōweti.

I think the underlying root might better be listed as *pleh₃- then, yes? Anglom (talk) 15:11, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
