@Metaknowledge: Hi again! Starling gets it from Oleg & Stolbova’s {{R:HSED}}, which, as usual, is more of a tentative collection of materials for further investigation than a proper reconstruction. Orel & Stolbova themselves question the Egyptian correspondence in the same book, noting that there’s no trace of the initial glottal stop in the Egyptian term. They speculate about the glottal stop being a prefix in the other branches, but undermine their speculation with a different speculation that the non-Egyptian terms are connected with a root *ʔab- ‘stone’ attested only in Cushitic. Both connections seem pretty weak to me, although not outright erroneous/impossible, I suppose. bnwt is indeed a real word that means ‘millstone’, at least. — Vorziblix (talk · contribs) 14:11, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
