Alternative forms[edit]

Pronunciation[edit]

  • (file)

Proper noun[edit]

die Rote Armee Fraktion f (proper noun, usually definite, definite genitive der Rote Armee Fraktion or der Roten Armee Fraktion)

  1. Red Army Faction (German far-left terrorist organization active 1970-98)
Synonyms: Baader-Meinhof-Gruppe, Baader-Meinhof-Bande (both mostly for the so-called “first generation”)

Usage notes[edit]

  • The adjective rot should not be declined for case because it is included in the compound (Rote-Armee-Fraktion, “Faction of the Red Army”). Nevertheless declension is quite common (as though it were Rote Armeefraktion).
