Etymology[edit]

A calque of Chinese 蘇州碼子苏州码子 (Sūzhōu mǎzi), from their use at the formerly important market town of Suzhou in Jiangsu Province. Mistakenly entered into Unicode as "Hangzhou numerals", which Unicode's policy precludes changing.
