Does атаман разбойников indicate some sort of prejudice toward Cossacks or nomad/muslim people in general (in imperial times)? 83.83.1.229 07:14, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly some slight prejudice against Cossacks (not Muslims) атаман has acquired a slightly negative connotation - a leader of a gang. Not sure what connection there is between Cossacks and bandits but there is in this word. Cossacks were always free (and uncontrolled) people, including poorest of them, unlike the rest of Russia in the feudal period. That's why there was some prejudice in the past, perhaps from landlords, not peasantry. --Anatoli (обсудить/вклад) 07:28, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
