Etymology[edit]
The "curse" is likely a later folk etymology. See these references indicating that "Yeshu" was Jesus's name in his native Galilean dialect.

- The third one is hardly an acceptable source, but yeah, his name was in all likelihood ישוע and that was pronounced without the ayn in a Galilean accent. The imitation of this pronunciation by non-Galilean Jews was probably not intended to be friendly, though. (Much like we would now mock somebody we don't particularly like by imitating his accent.)
